was missing. This line must be identical with the first line of the
      file RIV.DAT.

   b. The preprocessor for MT3D gives an error message "subscript out of
range...", when one try to edit the ICBOUND array. This error occurs
only when the number of column is less than 44 and the number of rows
      is less than 8.

2. To start MODPATH (V3, Release 1, 9-94), please follow the steps below:
   a. Choose MODPATH-Particle tracking from the Computation menu of the
      PM-shell.
   b. Just press the ENTER key at the following prompt:

default drive to A, type INSTALL and press Enter. Choose the options
      [x] BCF2 and [x] Scientific Software's version of MODFLOW. Click <OK>
and follow the setup instructions on the screen.

   b. INSTALL MODFLOW/EM:
Insert disk 1 of MODFLOW/EM in drive A. At the DOS prompt, type
COPY A:\*.* PMDIR, where PMDIR is the directory where PM3.0a is
      installed, e.g. C:\PM

   c. INSTALL MODPATH/EM
Insert disk 1 of MODPATH/EM in drive A. At the DOS prompt, type
COPY A:\*.* PMDIR, where PMDIR is the directory where PM3.0a is installed.

   d. INSTALL MODPATH-PLOT/EM
Insert disk 1 of MODPATH-PLOT/EM in drive A. At the DOS prompt, type
COPY A:\*.* PMDIR, and insert the following line into AUTOEXEC.BAT:

         SET GRAFPRINT=/T:PMDIR

where PMDIR is the directory where PM3.0a is installed.

   e. INSTALL MT3D
To run MT3D, you need a special version of MODFLOW, which is contained
in the MT3D software package. While installing PM, you MUST choose the
      options [x] BCF2 and [x] S.S. Papadopulos's version of MODFLOW.
After having installed PM3.0a, copy the following files from the
MT3D distribution disks to the PM directory:
         MT3D.EXE The MT3D simulation program
MODF.EXE The special version of MODFLOW
SAVELAST.EXE A program for extracting the concentration at the last
step and save it in the binary file RERUN.UCN.

2. To install the IGWMC's MODFLOW EXT (Version 1.3x) along with PM3.0a,
   please follow the steps below:

   a. INSTALL PM3.0a
Insert the disk 1 of PM in drive A. At the DOS prompt, change the

Where PMDIR is the directory where PM is installed, e.g. C:\PM

         EXAMPLE: PKUNZIP MODFLOW.ZIP C:\PM

The file MODFLOW.ZIP contains the compressed files and programs of
MODFLOW EXT, one of the program (PREMOD.EXE) has the same name as
the Preprocessor for MODFLOW provided by PM. PKUNZIP will ask whether
or not to overwrite the already existing program PREMOD.EXE, answer N
      at the prompt.

   c. INSTALL MODPATH/EM and MODPATH-PLOT/EM
If you have purchased MODPATH/EM and MODPATH-PLOT/EM separately from

      MODPATH and MODPATH-PLOT
      MPATH30: the Name-File for MPATHEM and MODPATH-PLOT
MAIN30.DAT: Main data file for MODPATH V.3.0
      MP30WEL.DAT: Well data file
      MP30RIV.DAT: River data file
      MP30DRN.DAT: Drain data file
MP30GHB.DAT: General head boundary data file
      MP30STR1.DAT:Stream Flow package data file
RCH.DAT: Recharge (Also used by MODFLOW/EM)
EVT.DAT: Evapotranspiration (Also used by MODFLOW/EM)

   b. By default, PM tells MODPATH/EM to read following resulting files
      from MODFLOW:
      BUDGET.DAT: Cell-by-Cell budget file
HEADS.DAT: hydraulic heads at each cell
      DDOWN.DAT: drawdowns at every cell

   c. By default, the results of MODPATH will be saved in the PM directory
by using the following file names, all these files are saved in ASCII:
      ENDPOINT: Endpoint of particles
PATHLINE: Coordinates along the path of each particle are recorded
                   in this file
TIMESERS: The locations of particles at specified points in time are
                   recorded in this file.

   d. If your model has only one row, PM3.0a automatically creates model data
for the 1-row cross-section option (XSECTION) of MODPATH V3.0.

6. A new particle tracking model PMPATH for Windows (Chiang, 1994) is now
available. PMPATH is a true Windows application and works with PM3.0x.
The program allows users to run particle tracking full interactively,
including forward and backward particle tracking (optionally single-step
tracking) for steady state and transient flow fields. Graphics output
include DXF, HPGL and Windows Bitmap. For more information, please

Release Note: 01 Oct. 1994

1. The PM-shell program PMMAIN.EXE now calls the IGWMC's MODFLOW
   with the following command:

     MOD-EM<IGWMCFIL

Where IGWMCFIL is a response file that contains the names of input
and output files in the order required by the IGWMC-MODFLOW
Version 1.3 or later. If you want to run the IGWMC-MODFLOW without
using the IGWMCFIL file, you have to exit PM and run MODFLOW by
typing the following command at the DOS-prompt:

     MOD-EM

2. The new PMTRANS.EXE program creates the response file IGWMCFIL for
   using with PMMAIN.EXE
